Cougars Get Back To Winning Ways With Special Teams
The game started off with a little deja vu from Wednesday night as the Cougars hit the post three times in the first period. They were finally able to avoid the iron and take a 1-0 lead at 19:28 of the first when Connor DeLay took a rebound from a Parker Jorginson point shot and beat Islander starter Dryden Demelo. The goal was on the PP in this physical penalty filled affair.
In the second the PP went to work again when Jackson Estey took a feed from Dylan Jessa and ripped a wrist shot high glove side at 6:55 to take a 2-0 lead. Then at 8:53 it was Ethan Roworth’s turn again on the PP with assists to Estey and Jessa. A little later in the period when there was a big scramble in the Islanders zone the newest Cougar, Jake Watson was able to corral the puck behind the net and tuck it in on a wrap around for his first goal and first point as a Cougar. With that point all Cougar players except the goalies have at least one point. The goal was scored at 4:01 of the second with Jacob Pang getting the only assist.
The physical play resulted in 14 PP opportunities. 9 for the Cougars and 5 for the Islanders. The Cougars went 3 for 9 and were able to maintain their number 1 PK by not allowing a goal against.
Final Score was 4-0 Cougars over the Islanders with Jonah Chambers getting his first shutout of the season.
Player of the game for KP was Jackson Egan and Vic Ethan Roworth.
The Cougars are back at it tonight for the 3rd time in 3 days at Pearkes Arena in Saanich taking on the Predators. Puck drop is 6:30.
