Cougars make it 6 in a Row
On Thursday night at the Arch it was the return of Josh Lingard to the Panthers lineup. The Panthers were hoping that his return would spark the team.
The Cougars were all over the Panthers for the start of the game. With league leader in the box for charging the best chance on the PP came to Cougars rookie Ben Brandt who picked off a pass and went in on a breakaway. Brandt hit Panthers starting goalie Carter Johnstone right in the middle of the chest. The Cougars continued to press and at 11:40 with Cougars defenceman Owen Evers in the box for tripping it was Brandt again picking off a Panthers PP pass. This time he made no mistake and scored his first goal as a Cougar short handed. The Cougars continued to press but Johnstone kept them at bay. At 15:32 with the faceoff in the Cougars zone it was Lingard making his presence known. He took the puck off the faceoff and right to the net where he roofed the puck over Cougars starter Fraser Wyatt and sent the water bottle flying. No assist on the play. After 1 it was 1-1 with shots favouring the Cougars 10-5.
The Cougars have dominated the second period but it was the Panthers who would score first in the second. Panthers D-man Theodore St.Denis did a cross ice pass that got deflected by a Cougar but went right to Aleko Sdrakas at the Cougars blueline. He speeded past the Cougars defender and faked cutting across which pulled Wyatt off the post and slid the puck in by the post. That was Sdakas’ first goal as a Panther. There was no scoring until 11:29. With a Panther in the box for Boarding Brandon McClintick passed the puck to Bryce Irwin at the side of the net who fed Spencer Golden in the slot. Golden took the pass off the skate to his stick and then put the puck in off the far post to tie the game. 19 seconds later Jackson Estey, behind the Panthers net fed Zach Guerra in front and he banged home his 4th of the year. The Panthers tied it up again at 14:48 when Evan Crawford cleared the puck off the glass, over the Cougars defence and Josh Lingard picked it up, went down the wing and ripped the puck past Wyatt for his second of the game. A little later Ethan Rowarth passed the puck from the point to Cam LeSargent in the high slot. Cam took a shot which was stopped by Johnstone’s pad but slid right to Guerra who slid the puck inside the post for his second of the game. The goal was scored at 17:55. No more scoring and the shots were 17-6 in favour of the Cougars.
In the third it was Brandt getting his second of the game from Matteo Pivetta and Evers at 9:59 and the final goal was scored at 15:45 when Brant potted his second of the game from Johnathon Esposito and Dylan Jessa.
The players of the game were Lingard for the Panthers and Brandt for the Cougars.
